Original 3 Governors On Beef Payroll Defend Pink Slime

It's hard to know what's more grating, three elected officials - Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback, Texas Gov. Rick Perry, and Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad - lying their asses off to protect a major political donor or the fact that they were lying their asses off about a product they wouldn't feed their kids.

"Pink slime" or "soylent pink" or "lean finely textured beef" is a food additive consisting of low quality protein of connective tissue, fats, spinal, rectal, and digestive lining of beef treated with ammonia gas in a huge centrifuge to kill foodborne illness causing bacteria. Yummy!

[ABC] "It's beef, but it's leaner beef which is better for you (because it doesn't actually contain beef)," Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad said. "We take this off the market then we end up with a fatter product that's going to cost more and is going to increase the obesity problem in this country."

In a related story from April 3rd, 2012, The Washington Post reported that AFA Foods filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy citing catastophic losses in business due to atogonistic media coverage about "pink slime".

What these corporate stooges expect us to believe is that media coverage concerning an issue that should concern every single American somehow managed, within a matter of days, to put a multibillion dollar company out of business. They also expect us all to believe that a carnivorous nation has suddenly, completely stopped eating beef products. They also conveniently nelgect to mention that AFA is one of dozens of similar companies producing similar meat products and none of them are suddenly bankrupt.

Absolutely ridiculous. And incredibly suspicious.

Governors Brownback, Perry, and Branstad represent the bacteria-ridden pink slime infecting our broken political system.

The liberal media's counterpoint to the furor
NPR reporter Eliza Barclay covered the pink slime furor with an interesting article entitled "Why pink slime isn't that different from other meat products". Which delves into the reality that most Americans are completely oblivious to how their food is processed.

What can you do?
Do a Google search for "local beef" or "grass-fed beef". Odds are there is a small family farm near you that sells grass-fed beef direct to consumers. Many now have web sites and online stores. They'll flash-freeze the beef and ship it to your location overnight. Cheap, convenient and healthy.
