Retired Air Force Officer Convicted in Contract Case

PENSACOLA, Fla., July 31 -- A retired Air Force lieutenant colonel was convicted Friday of destroying records and lying to a grand jury in connection with defense contracts awarded by a military research lab in Florida.

Richard Schaller was accused in a 31-count indictment of helping another retired Air Force lieutenant colonel, who worked at the Air Force Research Laboratory on Eglin Air Force Base, steer contracts to Schaller's company.
