Rick Scott
Scott was conveniently bought out for millions by Senator Bill Frist just prior to the company being charged with fraud. As a result, Scott escaped criminal charges.
But here is the best part ... he’s now using his ill-gotten fortune and his corrupt Washington connections to fight against health care reform as the founder of Conservatives for Patients’ Rights.
Scott's explanation for why his health care company, Columbia/HCA, systematically defrauded taxpayers and wound up having to pay $1.7 billion in fines (the largest fine in history) under his watch:
If you go back and look at the hospital industry, and the whole health care industry since the mid-1990s, it was basically constantly going through investigations. Great institutions, like ours, paid fines. It was too bad.
Everyone else was cheating, so we thought we should too ... nice.
This crooked asshole has influence in very high places in Washington.
